first world problems

I do not understand why
when people complain
some sympathetic understanding friends will always say to
think
think of the starving African children
and then I end up thinking that
my problems are tiny and insignificant
but they are real to me
and as a silly fifteen-year-old girl living in the U. S. A.
(where freedom rings)
why would thinking of the starving African children
make me
(it's all me, me, me)
feel any better?
thank you, sympathetic understanding friends.
